RAAYA BASALT

Conducted as part of the RAAYA graduation project, this research focuses on recreating the mineral richness and tactile depth of volcanic stone by working directly with raw basalt powder. By experimenting with custom binders and composite recipes, the project finely tunes grain density, color tones, and surface porosity to achieve an authentic basalt finish. The core objective was to create an element of surprise using retroreflective spray applied onto the crafted surface. By testing various formulas, shades, and application techniques, the project explores how a natural stone texture can suddenly transform when hit by light, turning a passive, raw material into a dynamic, light-sensitive experience.
